Yves Klein se narodil roku 1928 v Nice a zemřel roku 1962 v Paříži. Jeho otec byl postimpresionistický malíř Fred Klein a jeho matka Marie Raymondová byla zase malířkou tachistictickou. On sám byl postmodernistou, neodadaistou, konceptuálním umělcem a jedním ze zakladatelů neorealismu (nouveau réalisme), jehož manifest byl sepsán právě v jeho ateliéru. Byl odpůrcem klasické malby, často používal modely coby "živé štětce"(barvou natřené modelky obtáčel plátnem a podobně). Byl velice ovlivněn zen-buddhismem a orientální kulturou a filosofií. Sám vyučoval judo a mimo jiné se věnoval jazzu. Proslavil se svou Monotone Symphony (dlouze hrál jen jeden jediný akord, po čemž následovalo stejně dlouhé ticho). Velmi blízce se přátelil s Armanem a na svou tak často používanou modrou získal i patent: IKB (International Klein Blue). Skonal infarktem.
Yves Klein was born in 1928 in Nice and died in 1962 in Paris. His father was a Post-Impressionistic painter and his mother was a Tachistic paintress. But he was a Post-Modernist, Neo-Dadaist, Conceptual Artist and one of founders of New Realism (Nouveau Réalisme) whose manifesto was written in the atelier of him. He was against the classic painting style so he painted by models themselves (he covered them by blue colour and put them up to canvas etc.). He was influenced by the Zen-Buddhism and the oriental culture and philosophy. He taugh judo and he was also jazzman. He created the Monotne Symphony (he was playing just one chord for a long time and then followed silence). He was a close friend of Arman and he patented his blue colour IKB (International Klein Blue). He died of a heart attack.
