Franz Moritz Wilhelm Marc se narodil v Mnichově roku 1880 a zemřel těsně před bitvou u Verdunu v Braquis roku 1916. Byl synem malíře Wilhelma Marca a po jeho vzoru studoval mnichovskou Akademii výtvarných umění. Většinu svého života trpěl hlubokou depresí a celou řadu svých děl v ní také zničil. Byl zasnouben s malířkou Marií Schnür, od níž však doslova utekl do Paříže záhy po sňatku a později si vzal Marii Franc, rovněž umělkyni. Byl přítelem Augusta Macke a Vassily Kandynskyho, s nimiž založil Der Bleue Reiter. Jeho tvorba spadá do expresionismu, ovšem nechal se velmi ovlivnit impresionismem a tvorbou Roberta Delaunay. Za Velké války byl mobilizován a zemřel při výbuchu granátu těsně před bitvou u Verdunu.

Franz Moritz Wilhelm Marc was born in Munich in 1980 and died in Braquis in 1916 just before the Battle of Verdun. He was a son of painter Wilhelm Marc and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He suffered from depression most of his life and he destroyed a lot of his works for that reason. He married Marie Schnür but he literally ran away to Paris. Later he married Marie Franc (also artist). He was a friend of August Macke and Wassily Kandinsky, with who he established Der Bleue Reiter. He was an Expressionist but he was influenced by Impressionism and by Robert Delaunay. During the Great War he was mobilized and he was killed by a grenade just before the Battle of Verdun.

Vassily Vassilijevič Kandinsky se narodil v Moskvě roku 1866 a zemřel v Neuilly-sur-Seine roku 1944. Ač vystudoval práva, stal se ruským malířem, teoretikem umění a grafikem. V Německu si založil uměleckou školu Phalanx, která byla ovšem později zrušena. Stal se členem a presidentem Neue Künstlervereinigung München (Nového uměleckého spolku), později založil Der Blaue Reiter vydáním stejnojmenného almanachu. Po krátkém pobytu v Moskvě se vrátil do Německa vyučovat v Bauhausu. Později se ještě stává členem skupiny Die Blaue Vier (Modré čtyřky). Jeho dílo bylo nacisty prohlášeno zvráceným uměním a Kandinsky dožil ve Francii. Krátce žil s Gabriele Münterovou a jeho tvorba spadá do expresionismu abstraktního expresionismu.

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky was born in Moscow in 1866 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1944. Although he graduated in law, he became a Russian painter, printmaker and art theorist. He had established the Phalanx art school in Germany but later it was closed. He became a member and the president of Neue Künstlervereinigung München (New Artists Association) then he established Der Blaue Reiter by issueing of the almanac of the same name. After he had returned to Russia and back to Germany he started to teach at Bauhaus. Later he became a member of the group Die Blaue Vier (Blue Four). Nazis found his work as degenerate art and Kandinsky moved to France. He lived with Gabriel Münter for a short period of his life and his works are ranked as Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism.

Paul Klee se narodil roku 1879 v Münchenbuchsee (u Bernu) a zemřel roku 1940 v Muraltu-Locarnu. Mimo to, že si přivydělával hrou na housle, byl švýcarským malířem, grafikem, ilustrátorem a přednášejícím na Bauhausu. Byl jedním ze zakladatelů Der Blaue Reiter a věnoval se směsi expresionismu, kubismu, futurismu a surrealismu, podle mě se však jeho osobité dílo dá nejsnáze označit za modernistické. Byl přítelem Pabla Picassa a Wassilye Kandinskyho.

Paul Klee was born in 1879 in Münchenbuchsee (near by Bern) and died in 1940 in Muralto-Locarno. Besides he played on the violin, he was a Swiss painter, graphic designer, illustrator and a lecturer at the Bauhaus. He was one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter and he attended to blend of Expressionims, Cubism, Futurism and Surrealism, but in my opinion the easiest way of describing his work, is to call it Modernism. He was a friend of Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky.

Robert-Victor-Félix Delaunay se narodil roku 1885 v Paříži a zemřel roku 1941 v Montpelier. Byl francouzským kubistickým malířem, později se však stal zakladatelem orfismu. Byl členem Der Blaue Reiter. Jeho ženou byla malířka a designérka Sonia Delaunayová a synem jazzman Charles Delaunay.

Hans Arp se narodil v tehdy německém Štrasburku roku 1887, leč Alsasko po první světové válce připadlo Francii, a tudíž si Hans Arp musel změnit jméno na Jean Arp. Zemřel 1966 léta páně v Basileji. Hans Arp stál u zrodu dadaismu a později se věnoval i surrealismu. Byl to německo-francouzský básník, sochař a malíř. Byl rovněž členem skupin Der Blaue Reiter a Abstraction-Création.

Hans Arp was born in 1887 in Strasbourg which belonged to Germany at those times but Alsace became a part of France after the First World War so Hans Arp had to change his name to Jean. He died in 1966 in Basel. Arp was one of the founders of Dada and later he attended to Surrealism. He was a German-French poet, sculptor and painter. He was also a member of groups Der Blaue Reiter and Abstraction-Création.
