Alberto Giacometti se narodil roku 1901 v Borgonovu (švýcarsko-italské hranice) a zemřel roku 1966 v Churu. Byl tedy švýcarským surrealistickým, expresionistickým, kubistickým, suprematistickým, formalistickým a postimpresionistickým malířem, kreslířem, grafikem, ovšem zejména sochařem. Jeho bratry byli Diego (sochař a designér) a Bruno (architekt) Giacomettiovi. Spřátelil se s Brassaïem a samozřejmě André Bretonem.

Alberto Giacometti was born in 1901 in Borgonovo (Swiss-Italian border) and died in Chur in 1966. He was Swiss surrealistic, expressionistic, cubistic, suprematistic, formalistic and post-impressionistic sculptor, printmaker, painter and draftsman. His two brothers were Diego (sculptor and designer) and Bruno (archtect). He was a friend of Brassaï and André Breton.
